Grantland Bears Beatdown!

Fourth and Short: Niner’s Dish Out a Recipe of Whoop-ass by Bill Barnwell

In this article, Bill Barnwell explains how the 49ers brought their “A” game when they played the Chicago Bears last Monday night on Monday Night Football on national television. Everyone around the league thought the Bears had a defense with no weaknesses. I would say the San Francisco 49ers exploited the Bears defense and made it seem like the whole Bears defense was super super weak. I always knew that the Bears defense was not as good as people say it was because the Packers were struggling at the beginning of the year and even the struggling Packers put up 24 points on the Bears defense and won the game pretty handedly. I kept telling people sooner or later the Bears defense would suffice and become the Bears defense that everyone in the NFC North conference was used to seeing on Sundays.

Next is the quarterback controversy between the 49ers original starter Alex Smith, who didn’t start due to injury, and the 49ers “backup” quarterback Colin Kaepernick who led the 49ers to a big win over the Bears last Monday night. Alex Smith has always been a so –so quarterback since the day he was drafted. He has not brought a lot to the table like he was supposed to. Now with Alex Smith being hurt, Colin Kaepernick stepped up to the plate and hit a home run. If I were the head coach of the San Francisco 49ers I would keep the wheels turning and not look back. I would give Colin the job and say it was his job to lose.

PopMatters Will Ferrel Vs. Zach Galifianakis

The movie review titled, ‘The Campaign’ Gone Awry, by Ben Travers, was a movie review that I could relate to my own personal opinions to a dime. To summarize Travers movie review of The Campaign, Travers basically explains how Will Ferrell is becoming older and his movies aren’t as funny as his previous ones because he is aging and his means of being comical aren’t aging with him. Travers movie review also says that the Campaign is an ok movie and that Zach Galifianakis is the one that makes the movie funny.

I couldn’t have agreed with Travers movie review any more than I already do. When I went to see The Campaign in theaters back in August, I left the theater thinking the same thing. I thought Galifianakis played his part very well and was always making the audience laugh. Then I started to think about Will Ferrell and his part was well just another Will Ferrell part which is always funny and dirty jokes and a couple of swearing punch lines. Those are always funny, but it is the same old Will Ferrell character personality that every movie he is in has. I feel Will Ferrell can still be a comical character in movies if a director finds the right part for him which everyone in the audience has not already seen with one of Ferrell’s previous movies.

Although Travers’ review of The Campaign seems mostly like a negative review, he says it is still a good movie in which I agree, he just says that Will Ferrell’s part was kind of a letdown because he had high expectations in this film.

Pop Culture Journal A.V. Club

The movie review of Paranormal Activity 4 by Scott Tobias from the A.V. Club was of great interest to me. I have seen the first, second, and third Paranormal Activity movies and I have been waiting to get a group of people together to go see the fourth one. All of the other ones have been really good and I can imagine that this one will be good as well. I also agree with Tobias that all though Paranormal Activity might still be scary, it won’t necessarily be “surprising”. I agree with him because all of the movies follow the same plot and same type of movie where it is a bunch or recordings of the many events that occur. I feel that those recording are necessary for the movie, but all of the movies are the same and people can guess what will happen next. After reading Tobias’s review, I feel that the directors of the Paranormal Activity movies need to throw a twist in one of their upcoming movies to throw everyone in their audience off and have the whole world talking once again about how good of a movie Paranormal Activity was. If they would throw one twist in their movies everyone would be so focused on the rest of the movie and the rest of the movies in the future that they could make even more money off of these movies than they already do. I feel they are good movies and I cannot wait to go see Paranormal Activity 4 as soon as I can find a group of people to go with.

Pop Culture Journal Grantland

The article Is This Real? Your 7-0 Atlanta Falcons by Bill Barnwell was a great article because it was easy for me to relate to what Bill Barnwell was saying. I also think that the Falcons are a little overrated despite the fact that they are still the only undefeated team in the National Football League half way through the season. I agree with Bill Barnwell when he said based off of his findings he noticed that the Falcons have had the easiest schedule in the National Football Conference and that is why they might still be undefeated. I am a big football fan and I always have to hear about how good the Falcons are or if the Falcons are real or not on SportsCenter when I watch it so I have heard many different reasons for why or why not the Atlanta Falcons are a legit team to be afraid of when it comes to playing against them on Sunday afternoons. Bill Barnwell says the offense is about the same as it was last year and they defense is just a little bit better for the Atlanta Falcons as it was just one year ago, so that might factor in a little bit, but it still goes to prove that it is pretty much the same team statistically and they are just not playing the tougher competition at the time. I feel the Atlanta Falcons wont be undefeated too much longer once their level of competition catches up to them. Even if they do go into the playoffs undefeated, I feel like they haven’t played good enough football to win a single playoff game this year.

True Grit Screening Report

The Scene I picked from the movie True Grit, is a scene where Maddie, the main character, is bargaining with a stable owner for a horse and a saddle.  This scene takes place just ten minutes into the movie. The reason this scene is so significant to the rest of the plot is because in order to track down Cheney, the man who shot and killed her father, Maddie will need a horse and a saddle. From this scene forward the rest of the movie is able to take place. Every single main point throughout the directors’ plot would not be able to happen if Maddie was unable to buy a horse. Maddie has very little money being a young girl and it showed what type of personality her character had when she was willing to bargain for a horse and a saddle with the little money she had to track down the man who killed her father. The whole movie can be traced back to this very scene. Even the very last scene of the movie I was able to think about how the movie got to the point it was at and I went all the way back to this scene. I thought about Maddie’s determination and her determination is portrayed throughout the rest of the movie. Those are some of the reasons why this particular scene struck me as the most vital scene to the movie True Grit.

Writing About Movies

Picture is from Google Images
My favorite movie up unitl this point is The Blind Side. The reason why I like The Blind Side is because it has to do with football and it also has a good story line and plot to the movie. No matter how many times I have already seen the movie, everytime it is on T.V. or everytime someone wants to watch The Blind Side, I will watch it. I am drawing a blank at the moment, I also like watching The Blind Side because it has good actors and actresses in it and they play their parts very well. This movie gives every person no matter their background or where they came from hope that they have a chance to do something with their life. This movie made me rethink some things and not take what I have in my life for granted.

Winning Actually Isn't the Only Thing

Winning Actually Isn't the Only Thing
By: David Maraniss

In the short writing, “Winning Actually Isn’t the Only Thing” by David Maraniss, I feel that David Maraniss’s argument is that the Seattle Seahawks didn’t handle themselves with class after Monday night’s Packer game and that winning shouldn’t be everything. He argues that winning shouldn’t be everything because he feels that being honest and respectable as a man is more important as a human being. He argues his point by explaining how the Seahawks know the call on the field was wrong and that they shouldn’t be happy because they didn’t actually win the game and they should be real men and realize they didn’t instead of act like children and run around the field like they had just won the Super Bowl.

I one hundred percent agree with David Maraniss. After I saw the one referee with zero experience besides 4 years of high school football make the call of a touchdown and seeing all of the Seahawks running on the field with their helmets off like they have just won the Super Bowl, especially coach Pete Carroll, I lost all respect for them as men. I know it was a big moment of the game, but I would think mature men like the players in the National Football League are would react a little more professional than the Seahawks did. Winning should not be everything if it comes down to acting like the Seahawks did. I feel the Packers should have received more recognition for how professionally they reacted after they just had a game literally stolen from them by the referees. It just shows that to the Packers winning is not everything, but that playing with class is.
